Ralph Macchio - The Original Karate Kid

Back when you made the movies there was no way you could have known these were going to stand the test of time. Why do you think they did?

Ralph Macchio: "I think the films, first of all, there's a beautifully crafted story. The characters, Mr Miyagi is just one of those magical film characters and Daniel Larusso was the 'every' kid. He was the boy next door. He was not very athletic. He didn't have any of that. And it's the human elements of a fatherless child with a single mother moving to a different place and having that guy, that human Yoda, to help him navigate adolescents. It's a beautiful story."

With all those movies, do you have a favorite memory of actually being on the set?

Ralph Macchio: "One of my favorite moments on the set was Pat Morita's beautiful what we call the 'Oscar nomination scene' where you learn of Miyagi's backstory, and Daniel Larusso puts him to bed. He becomes he mentor for him for a moment, and then takes that wisdom on and trains himself. Gets me every time."

Arsenio Hall

Arsenio Hall: "You know, there are times when I'm stuck for an answer with my child..."

Do you look at About.com?

Arsenio Hall: "And you bing!"

You're working on a lot of projects. What's coming up next?

Arsenio Hall: "I'm doing a bunch of stuff, but what I really... I have to plug one thing?"

Plug as many as you want.

Arsenio Hall: "You know what? I'm actually writing a book, and that's the most exciting thing to me because I get to interview people but nobody ever gets to know stuff about me. So I'm enjoying that opportunity."

So is the book going to be your life? What is it going to be?

Arsenio Hall: "Yeah, it's going to be a lot of advise about this town and my life, and hopefully a lot of stuff that people don't know, that you can't tell when it's going on. Every now and then, like a friend will pass, like the other day when Gary Coleman passed, you start thinking about this stuff. And I'm a vet now so it's time to reminisce and have that kind of fun."

I can't wait to read it. When's it going to be done?

Arsenio Hall: "I'm hoping eight months, but you know that's ambitious because there are times when you start writing and Househusbands of Hollywood is on and you have to stop for a minute. You know, like a minute being a month."

What else are you working on?

Arsenio Hall: "What else should we tell her about? You know it's called TV's Most Surprising Moments and it's a CBS vehicle about historic TV situations, and obviously my Bill Clinton moment ends up winning situations like that. So check it out on CBS. It's June the 16th. Les Moonves just shot something and hit me in the back of the neck."
